Madani @america

A long-time has passed since 1964 when Nathan Glazer and Daniel Moynihan mentioned the parable that the United States is more like a salad bowl than a melting pot. If it’s like a melting pot, then it’s like saying that the society melts into homogeneity and the initial – unique forms that make up the society blend into something new. Whereas, if it’s more like a salad, then each of the ingredients still looks distinct from one another, but overall they all taste delicious together as one serving of salad. It’s also like a mosaic: each piece remains a unique part, but overall, they combine as one whole image. And that’s what the films in the Madani @america program are all about.

This year, the Madani Film Festival collaborates with @america to present a screening program for films made by Muslim-American directors, or films about the life stories of the Muslim community as seen from the perspectives of others. And we have a special guest to host this program together with us: Muslim-American director Akram Shibly, who represents the voice of Muslims through his short films.
